Tropical Livestock Consultants
Tropical Livestock Consultants (TLC) is a Fiji-based livestock consulting and project delivery company specialising in cattle genetics, reproduction, herd development and tropical livestock production systems.
We combine practical livestock experience with reproductive technologies, breeding-program design, herd data systems, technical training and on-farm implementation.
Our core expertise is in cattle, with additional capability in small-ruminant breeding and reproductive management.
Our Work
We work with governments, development organisations, livestock enterprises and farmers to design and implement practical livestock-improvement programs.
Our work goes beyond providing advice or writing reports. We aim to develop livestock systems that can actually be implemented, managed and sustained under tropical and island conditions.
From breeding strategy and reproductive technologies through to field implementation, technician training and herd-management systems, our focus is on practical outcomes that build lasting local capability.

Regional & International Experience
TLC draws on the extensive livestock and reproductive-technology experience of its Managing Director and professional network across Australia, the Pacific and Asia.
This experience includes cattle genetics, reproduction and herd-development work in Australia and the Pacific; commercial livestock and genetics work associated with THACO AGRI's operations in Vietnam and Cambodia; and dairy reproductive-technology experience with Shanghai Dairy Group in China.

Livestock Consulting & Technical Services
TLC provides specialist livestock consulting, project development and implementation services, with particular expertise in cattle genetics, reproduction and herd development.
From breeding-program design and reproductive technologies through to herd systems, technical training and field implementation, our focus is on practical solutions suited to tropical and developing livestock industries.
TLC can support cattle breeding and genetic-improvement programs, including artificial insemination, semen production and handling, cryopreservation, embryo-transfer programs and other reproductive technologies.
TLC can also assist with reproductive management and synchronisation, bull and sire selection, breed evaluation and introduction, and monitoring reproductive performance. Training and capacity building for technicians should also be part of the service.
TLC can design and manage these programs and, where specialist procedures such as embryo transfer are required, work with appropriate specialists to deliver the necessary expertise. This means the service is managed by TLC without suggesting that Simon personally performs every specialist procedure.
Reproduction & Genetics
Livestock Programs & Production Systems replaces the previous Strategy & Systems heading. This service focuses on helping livestock organisations and projects move from planning to practical implementation.
TLC can provide livestock-sector assessments and feasibility studies, national livestock-development planning, project design and implementation, farm and herd assessments, and production-system evaluations.
The service can also include planning for breeding infrastructure and reproductive laboratories, livestock data and herd-management systems, technical specifications and procurement planning, as well as staff and farmer training.
TLC can further support project monitoring, evaluation and technical reporting to help ensure projects are properly managed and achieve their intended outcomes.
Livestock Programs & Production Systems
TLC can help develop and manage national and commercial livestock breeding programs. This includes setting up nucleus, multiplier and commercial herds, developing genetic improvement and dissemination strategies, and supporting replacement and selection programs.
TLC can also assist with breed improvement, crossbreeding, herd recording and performance data, as well as managing inbreeding and maintaining genetic diversity. Other areas include bull breeding and distribution, beef and dairy herd development, and small-ruminant breeding and reproductive programs.
The aim is to help farmers and livestock organisations build stronger, more productive and sustainable herds through better breeding and management systems.
